Modern, new and, yet, used for thousands of years
Central heating with radiators has been introduced since 1930 and has since been used as a standard heating system for homes and subsequently for apartments, offices, industrial spaces, etc., remaining more or less unchanged over the past 8 decades.
However, underfloor heating, a modern choice for heating was introduced in the last decade and it is the experts’ recommendation, as it offers unparalleled benefits compared to the classic heating system using radiators, and at the same time, increased comfort and unrivalled luxury. Although it seems like a modern solution, it was invented centuries ago and was used successfully by the Romans: the floor was raised about 20 centimetres from the surface (the height can vary depending on the dwelling), being supported by pillars built out of brick and mortar. A furnace was built in the corner of the room, and the hot air from it circulated in the space under the floor.

Radiant System versus Convection System Differences
Radiators heat the air around them by convection – the air heated by a radiator rises to the ceiling and once this warm air has cooled, it “falls” to the ground level to be heated again by the convection of the radiator, thus creating a flow of air currents, warm and cold, distributed unevenly in the room, with warmer areas near the radiators and cooler at the bottom, at the floor level.
